Soviet troops broke through the Romanian defenses in the defiele of Sarpinskie Lakes, and advancing to Abganerovo r/w station, with the task to cutting German supply lines of armies fought in Stalingrad area. The German HQ began transferring reserves to the sector of the breakthrough.
