Once Reginald Does His Thang launched, we thought it would be fun to add a chaotic local multiplayer arena mode. Nothing too serious, for example the wild arena mode in Spelunky can be used a reference point. Naturally, the reality of a small (2 person) indie game dev studio being what it is, years later the arena mode is finally released! This has been added to the single player game as a free update, as well as this stand-alone version. This gives players the ability to check out the game mechanics if considering purchasing the full game.
The arena mode is intended to be played with Xbox or PlayStation style controllers and the button prompts in-game are currently displayed as Xbox format.
The UI and overall flow of setting up matches can be tweaked and improved, as well as needed optimization. Upcoming work on the arena mode is planned to target:
- A tutorial screen explaining mechanics (if you have not played the single player game, there are multiple mechanics and controls to learn how to use effectively).
- Add D-Pad controls for movement.
- Test with additional controllers.
- Refine the UI.
- Optimization (too many coins causes slowdown, players spawning on fire should be fixed, etc.)
- Additional levels and characters.
- Add ability to remap controls.
Enjoy the chaos!
