Hello Trivia Fans!
We would like to start by giving a shoutout to the particular brand of _Egg_heads that have recently joined the show! Welcome aboard!
This week we've been improving the experience for Steam Remote Play Together users, with a focus on enabling Trivia Tricks to be controlled through mobile phones.
The latest update to Steam Remote Play has made it possible to turn any smartphone into a controller by simply following a link! Phones-as-controllers has been our most requested feature by far and this update is aimed at making the Remote Play experience as seamless as possible!
Your phones will automatically load our Steam Input layout and an in-game tutorial to set this all up is now on the Character Select Screen (really, it's easy!). The cherry on top of all these benefits - with Remote Play you can play with others online who don't even own Trivia Tricks! Nifty!
That's not all! We've also been busy fixing bugs (especially around the chatbox) and adding a heap of new questions on the latest hot topics as suggested by our extremely friendly Discord community!
Check out the full patch notes to Trivia Tricks 0.8.15.2 below!
Improvements for Remote Play
- The Character Select Screen now contains a handy tutorial on how to get setup with Steam Remote Play, both for using phones as controllers and for playing online with a single copy of Trivia Tricks
- Mobile players will automatically get our mobile controller layout, designed to keep the questions and answers visible at all times
- The controller disconnection menu has been changed to a non-invasive notification which allows questions to still be answered while shown - with the option of swapping out the disconnected player for an AI. Previously this was a full-screen dialog box which could only be dismissed by reconnecting the controller or returning to the main menu. This is to better accommodate possible network dropouts.
- All players can now open and navigate the pause menu, not just player 1
- The Character Select Screen has had its icons updated to represent phone players
- The Character Creator now has a button to generate a random player name, allowing characters to be created without needing a keyboard (nifty for controllers!)
Question Database Update
- We have begun to adjust the focus of the mathematics category so there are less questions on basic arithmetics, therefore increasing the likelihood of getting a mathematics trivia question. We are also rebalancing the arithmetic questions to be generally harder. The benefits of this will become more visible over the next couple of updates!
- Added over 50 additional questions suggested by the Discord community! Thank you to everyone who has suggested questions so far!
- Fixed some typos, and cleaned up the wording on a variety of questions. Thanks to all of you who took the time to report these to us directly!
Chat Box Usability Improvements
- The chat box and disconnection menu will now appear in the correct location for all aspect ratios
- Fixed a bug where all text typed into the character creator name field and chat box would be placed at the end, regardless of the cursor's position
- Fixed a bug where it was not possible to click in the chat box or scroll chat history while a question was being asked, or when a Trickster was speaking
- Fixed a bug where the chat would not wrap especially long words to a new line if they were too long
Misc Bug Fixes!
- Achievements that require the player to win a game or beat a boss will now unlock when the final score is revealed instead of during the scene transition. No more spoilers!
- Achievements and cosmetics that must be unlocked in Standard Trivia mode now explicitly mention this in their descriptions
- We've told Negative to get a move on during his chance time, so his animations are a lot faster now!
- Fixed a bug where players who joined the lobby would be shown with the host's appearance until their cosmetics were loaded
- Fixed a bug where, when Change Answers was enabled, the player was sometimes able to answer during moments where there were no questions being asked
- Fixed an issue where the button prompts in the lobby didn't always show the correct icons for the currently used control method
- Fixed a bug where local players other than player 1 could swap tab in the lobby host screen
- Game start timer now remains in a X:XX format during the whole countdown
- Game timer will now display 'Now starting...' when all players have readied up instead of returning to 1:00
- Fixed bug where 'P' and 'Esc' had slightly different behaviour in certain pause screens
- Some UI elements have been repositioned so there's no longer a pixel gap at the edge of the screen
Over the next couple of weeks we will be improving the UI's integration with Steam Community features.
Please let us know what you think on our Steam Discussion Forum or join our ever-growing Discord. Thank you for following Trivia Tricks!
