Survivors!
We are going to release a hotfix today that addresses the issue with the disappearing followers. This time it’s a proper fix so that this issue should be a thing of the past.
A follow-up hotfix that is planned for tomorrow will then try to repair the save games of anyone affected by this bug and bring all followers back. If you have lost followers, please do not start a new game just yet. Chances are very high that we will be able to bring them back in tomorrow’s hotfix.

P.S. This hotfix is numbered 3b because hotfix 3, which was published to the experimental branch on Friday, was a workaround to mitigate the effects of the dissapearing follower bug and is now obsolete.
