Hope you’re having a good week, it’s super cold here in Melbourne right now! Today’s update is pretty important because not only is it a whole new version number, it also marks the start of Garland’s next stage: exiting Early Access!
I’ll be making a full announcement soon with an updated Roadmap and dates but let me give you the short version now.

I’ve pretty much passed my original plans for pre-release content, the core gameplay and stories are complete, I’ve added a lot of mechanics that weren’t in the plans, made adjustments based on your feedback and even though my to do list is still looooong with stuff I want to add, I don’t want to stagnate and I think we’re in a good spot to move forward.
So what’s changing in terms of development?
Not much! I’m still going to be doing monthly updates with new content, fixing bugs and working on things just like I’ve been doing the whole time.
Garland is a living breathing city and cities grow and evolve over time. So when I make updates in the future, you’ll see the City Council doing construction in game.
To help with bug reports I’m in the middle of moving to a new more reliable ticketing system so more info on that soon!
Exiting Early Access is pretty scary to be honest. With something as big as Garland, nothing ever feels <done> and getting this far has been a huge learning curve and I’m still loving every minute of it.
One last important thing, this is the last week you’ll be able to purchase Garland at its current price. From next Monday the price will be increasing to the full price of US$14.99. There will be a discount around release but it probably will never be this low again.
Garland has become an amazing community and I can’t wait to keep growing along with the city together!

Early Access 1.3.7A - Patch (PC and Mac) (Full and Demo) - 10/07/25

General:
- Fixed crash on tally log.
- Adjusted graffiti spawn logic and rates.
- Tasks - Fixed an issue with demo quests not updating in some circumstances.
- Mini games - fixed to being able to run during games and health draining during games.
- Errand Run - Temporarily removed references to Record Player, Vinyl Record and Instrument rack until they are readied as furniture.
- Errand Run - Added foraging and Crystals to request list.
- Lifts - Fixed not being able get t into NPC apartments after unlocking.
- Shops - Fixed market stall shop keepers being in wrong position.
- FoP - Fixed crash on resetting during swan rides.
- Inventory - Added Sunshine Buffin image.
- Inventory - Fixed some buffins giving incorrect Buff levels.
- Mail - Fixed some dated mail not delivering in certain situations.
- Mail (old saves) - fixed some mail saving in wrong format.
- Mail - Adjusted delivery dates to be more accurate.
- Gardening - Fixed Council Pot displaying the wrong image.
- Relationships app - Fixed quest icon so it only shows if quest is accepted.
- Cutscenes - adjust opening so it’s more seamless and there is less of a gap during set up.
- News/Help - Combined into 1 app with tabs.
Nightly Summary:
- When you go to sleep a summary of your day will now display.
- Adjust fade down and sounds for overnight.
- More things will be added to summaries so let me know if there’s anything you’d like to track or if you want to be able to turn this off.
Decoration progression:
- Temporarily removed ability to place furniture and plants outside for future Council area unlock mechanics.
- Old saves - added ability to place furniture in areas unlocked during completed building events.
Locations:
- Updated map to include uni, beach, farm and mountains.
- Updated map image in TV and Get Map task.
- Updated farm and mountain level layouts.
- Fixed return to apartment location being incorrect in some apartments during events. eg after break up.
- Farm, restaurant - Adjust ambient sound levels.
Collect Haruka’s Sketches
- Oh no, Haruka has lost a bunch of pages from her sketchbook and they could be anywhere around Garland! She’s pretty embarrassed about some of them because of reasons… so you should probably find them!
- Added sketches tab to scrapbook app.
- Updated Haruka’s first petal event to reference sketches.
- 5 sketches added to collect in hidden locations around Garland.
Fishing:
- Mini game now is more interactive with tapping left/right, holding up/down.
- Updated artwork.
Rocks:
- Added rocks that you can break with multiple hammer hits. Rocks give pebbles every 3 hits and randomise the number of pebbles available.
- Rocks spawn in non-city levels.
Petal Events/Relationships:
- Fixed certain circumstances causing the wrong track events to trigger. eg romance events while friends, friend events while romantic etc.
- Added a check so you can only do 1 event per npc per day.
- Weddings - adjust achievement text and added more tallies.
- Weddings - fixed event not changing relationship status to married.
- Leon PE 4F - Fixed soft lock.
- Elle PE 1F - Fixed getting stuck in tree (hopefully).
- Haruka PE 1F - Updated dialogue, portraits and tigger area.
- Dan PE 1F - Updated dialogue.
- Avery PE 2F - Updated dialogue.
- Sage Intro - Readded screenshake.
- Kirin 1F - Updated dialogue, fixed dialogue choices.
- Adjust trigger timers in: Haruka 4D/5D, Kirin 4D, April 4D, Dan 6M, George 5F, Finn 2F/6M, Quinn 3F/6M, Liv 3F, Jake 5D, Oliver 4D, Sage 5F/5D.
Building events:
- Pinewood move in - Adjust Dan’s positioning to save him from the void.
Back end/Optimisations
- Converted Tasks and Daily Tasks to Listener structure.
- Fixed a couple of Tasks trying to send rewards too often.
- Consolidated obj_noticeboard, obj_dialogue, obj_relationship, obj_inventory to obj_game structure for better control.
- Added base areas for future levels.
- Adjusted logging to be more defensive.
- Fix slow down from incorrect log of set_game_state.
- Convert transitions to be more flexible.
