1. Issue Overview

We have currently received reports from some users of LiveCap that "the exe file is being detected as a virus." The LiveCap development team (though it's actually just me) is currently checking the antivirus software detection information and working on fixes! We apologize for any inconvenience until the response is complete.

2. Main Cause of False Positives - What is PyInstaller?

LiveCap is developed in Python and uses a tool called PyInstaller to generate executable files for distribution. PyInstaller has the following characteristics, which can sometimes become a breeding ground for false positives:

PyInstaller Characteristics

Reasons Why Antivirus Software is Prone to False Positives

1. Extracts and executes in memory at startup

The behavior of memory decompression → execution without writing files is misunderstood as "obfuscation"

2. Includes Python runtime

File size is larger than normal software, and signature-based detection may conflict with known malware

As such, because some specifications overlap with typical malware behaviors like "One-File Bundle," "Self-extraction," and "Dynamic code loading," it is easily caught by antivirus heuristic detection in classifications such as "Packed.Python", resulting in false positives in malware detection.

3. Future Response Plan

To resolve false positives, our team plans to implement the following updates in sequence:

    []

    Introduction of self-signed certificate

      []

Since official signing is expensive (about 100,000 yen per year), we plan to add self-signing this time.

    Review of Pyinstaller build process

      []

We will partially modify the build method based on false positive prevention build information reported for Pyinstaller.

We will report progress on the Steam store page and Discord server as needed.

4. Questions and Inquiries

If you have any bug reports or questions, please feel free to contact us at the official Discord server. The developer will respond directly.
