Greetings dinosaur hunters!

We are extremely happy to announce Tenebris update is here! The update brings a whole new map, 7 new dinosaur species and numerous other improvements to the game.

New Map – Tenebris island

The island features several unique and visually distinct special locations. Bringing the new island to life required major changes and optimizations. While most of these aren’t directly visible in gameplay, they lay the groundwork for better performance, stability, and future features. To give you an idea of the scale, the old map has objects in tens of thousands, but the new map has them in hundreds of thousands. The new island features a lot of new environment assets that are utilized to create distinct biomes on the island. There are new story notes one can discover.









Environment & Asset Enhancements

We have made significant improvements to foliage quality, asset LODs, and visual consistency across biomes. Distant environment now have increased visual quality. All vegetation assets have been uniformed and upgraded to the same shader, enabling better control in game systems like the weather system.

New dinosaur species

The update adds 7 new dinosaur species who will be inhabiting the new map.

Allosaurus

Allosaurus makes its debut as a formidable new predator. Allosaurus is easily recognized from its large skull with ridged colorful crests.



Stegosaurus

Stegosaurus is a slow-moving herbivore known for its distinctive row of large, upright plates along its back and a spiked tail.



Therizinosaurus

Therizinosaurus is a unique-looking herbivore recognized by its towering claws - each over a meter long - used for defense and foraging. It stands upright with a long neck and feathered body, making it one of the most easily recognized and unusual dinosaurs.



Sinornithosaurus

Sinornithosaurus is a small, feathered dinosaur known for its bird-like appearance and agility. Recognized by its wing-like arms, sharp teeth, and long tail, it hunts in packs, can climb trees and glide from trees.



Sarcosuchus

Sarcosuchus is a massive crocodyliform, easily recognized by its elongated snout and sheer size - reaching over 30 feet long.



Quetzalcoatlus

Quetzalcoatlus is one of the largest flying animals in history, recognized by its impressive height, long neck, and enormous wingspan. It soars over vast distances in search of prey.



Parasaurolophus

Parasaurolophus is a herbivorous dinosaur known for the long, curved crest on its head.



Reworking existing species

5 existing species got big improvements.

Tyrannosaurus Rex

Tyrannosaurus Rex has an all-new model, animations and textures.



Spinosaurus

Spinosaurus has got a new model and new textures.



Brachiosaurus

Brachiosaurus has got a new model and new textures.



Pteranodon

Pteranodon has new textures for all variants.



Carnotaurus

Carnotaurus too has new textures for all variants.



Dinosaur AI & animation upgrades

Dinosaurs are receiving smarter AI: enhanced reactions to player actions, expressive head movements, improved herd and group behaviors, and natural-feeling movement.

We have been developing a more modular AI system which is for example used by Sinornithosaurus. This system will enable us to in the future make the flying species spend more time on the ground etc.

Audio overhaul

The game’s audio has been reworked. Dinosaurs make more different types of calls, some more quiet and some louder. You’ll hear some familiar dinosaur sounds but also a lot of new sounds from the old species.

The ambience sounds have been renewed. You’ll hear more dynamic ambience elements in the environment getting a more lively feeling.

The player sounds were renewed with focus on the footstep sounds.

Fast travel item: Satellite phone

You’re now able to purchase a satellite phone with which you can call a helicopter to pick you up from anywhere in the map. A helicopter will lower a winch and if you interact with it, you’re able to fast travel to all special locations you’ve discovered.



Old map (Moreau island) improvements

Most trees on Moreau island were reworked. Many environment textures and models on the old map were improved too.





Performance optimization

The update comes with extensive environment optimizations aimed at maintaining stability and high frame rates, even in more complex or crowded areas.

Memory optimization

Faster loading is achieved through better preprocessing and memory optimizations.

Game engine update

Upgraded engine with support for advanced features like ray-tracing, smoother movement, and better cross-platform compatibility.

Gun feel & Player improvements

The gun sway pattern has been reworked to give a more uniform way to handle the gun while aiming. Player character will now stick more to the ground when traversing over bumpy terrain. This makes player movement feel less floaty.

Player corpses added

Player will create a corpse on death.

Map editor improvements

  • Fix dinosaur spawn limit in Mods
  • Map editor selection arrows change color based on mode (move, rotate, scale)
  • Selection does not go through the tool selection UI in Map editor
  • UI elements take less unnecessary space
  • Quick save option to terrain and objects
  • Added custom object material double sided option


Controller support improvements

  • Character sub menus fixed on controller
  • Character sub menu list scrollable
  • Match name larger in create game
  • Fixed sell item menu not being interactable
  • Fixed unable to select any challenges
  • Trophy lodge object list scrollable
  • Feedback form is now interactable
  • Leaderboards are now scrollable
  • Holding down stick now allows to scroll menu items
  • Various other menu improvements


Other improvements

  • Dinosaur description texts were added for all new species, thank you community members Capt. Capy, God Eater, Megatron and Oblivion is at hand!
  • New community translation: Spanish (Thank you Aiden!)
  • Updated community translation: French (Thank you MAGsouille!)
  • Improvements to anti cheat
  • Added client UI for player who has been banned
  • Limit main menu fps
  • UI now shows clearly the selling price of items is 50% of purchase price
  • Missions now require the correct map to be active to be available in the mission menu. Mission is now also not activated if playing on different maps.
  • Shop open part now works also when player opened shop before previous dialog ended.
  • Intro: Skip item move from storage to inventory, if player has empty storage.
  • Dino bleeding calculated to total damage
  • New 3D banner visual for weekly challenges
  • Improved UI for weekly challenges
  • Lower FOV settings available
  • Trophy lodge: delayed lodge generation & player generation by frame, so initial load of scene is fasterImproved player body creation so initial frame is less heavy
  • Optimized server/client actions when buying/selling items
  • Dinosaur reward claiming now confirms that server successfully claimed them before removing them from client.
  • Other smaller improvements


Bug fixes

  • Fixed dinosaurs hopping while stopping incline
  • Blocked fast travel in intro before the fast travel part in intro.
  • Contracts are no longer available for the first seconds in intro.
  • Blocked Contract Machine/Shop in intro before Shop part.
  • Fixed female hands in first person
  • Trophy lodge loaded asynchronously, so game does not freeze.
  • Fixed health initial UI value
  • Removed one laggy muzzle flash effect
  • Fixes to inventory. Buying and selling items now verify that server did the operation. If storage fails to load from server, client now can’t overwrite it with empty data.
