Howdy Wranglers!

A couple weeks ago we dropped a major update to the closed alpha. Since then we'd taken feedback from the Closed Alpha Discord server community and made further stabilisations and adjustments. So today we figured we'd drop this post with a collection of all the patch notes that make this new version of Among the Wild what it is. These patch notes basically cover the changes between now and January 2025, or so.

We've also invited a bunch more people into the closed alpha as well! So if you're not already part of the Closed Alpha Discord community, do check the email you got that had the key to the game for your invite link to the discord server and come join the fun!

Lastly, we dropped a new video announcing the keys, but also talking about some of the changes in this update:

Without further ado! Patch notes!

Message for newcomers: Consider not looking at these patch notes as they may contain spoilers that could affect your first-time experience. But hey, no hard rules! Do as you wish!

This update will break saves. However if you want to test your old save or the old version of the game we have a separate branch on Steam (Properties->Betas-> ca-0.1 Closed Alpha version 0.1)

We’re gonna keep this list intentionally brief. A detailed breakdown is probably just unnecessary as the TL;DR; is “everything has changed”.

So what have we’ve been up to?

Town

  • New narrative and refined characters

  • All new quests 

  • Mailbox(!)

  • New pacing of content and progression

  • Different merchant systems

  • Town reputation

  • Moved things around and added new buildings

New Creature Mood System 

  • New creature traits, abilities and requirements

  • Creatures communicates needs better (hopefully)

  • Redesigned creature needs to limit fatigue over time

  • Fixed a bunch of bugs

New World Building Pipeline

  • Ability to make more interesting terrain and biomes

  • Ability to make bigger points of interests

  • Paths & Rivers

  • New lighting system

  • New weather system

  • New starting farm

Misc:

  • New tree chopping

  • New stone cutting

  • Changes to music system and added some additional music 

  • New buildables

  • Fishing Prototype

  • Cloud saves!

Content / Features:

  • Additional gate for wooden fences

  • Added direction hints on gates and doors when building

  • Added Sell Box to farm

  • New build menu

  • Added short fence

  • Added loom machine and cloth 

  • Woolys can now remove wool using backscratcher

  • Trap now uses lure to increase chance of catching different creatures

  • Added crop status HUD information that shows if watered, fertilized or boosted

  • Falling trees can now hit other trees

  • Player can now eat food to replenish health

  • Complex quests get updated descriptions when steps to continue/complete have changed

Balance:

  • Big rebalance of the whole game - prices, objectives, rewards and timers

  • Crops won’t grow without being watered

  • Crops stays watered for 24h

  • Water sprinkler does not need additional water anymore

  • When buying a recipe you get the resources to build as well

  • Wooly only procreate when happy

  • Slowed down player

  • Buffed fertilizer effect

  • Smoker only accepts seafood

Tweaks:

  • Showing crop boundaries when looking at crop

  • Foundation snapping improved

  • Added SFX when picking up crops

  • Building in Town is not allowed anymore /Hornbeam

  • Make stamina bar more noticeable 

  • You can now water crops from a fence, even from a roof if you would want that

  • Added “Point” on F to HUD to remind that you can point on things to show creatures what to interact with

Bugs:

  • Fixed unchoppable small tree

  • Fixed warp stone bugs

  • Fixed sorting issue with delivery boxes in tall grass

  • Tweaks to evolve powder description and function

  • Water well and clay machine interaction fixes

  • Fish can now be staffed/hit without insta-dying

  • “Pick up” prompt is not shown for fishes swimming

  • Clay Machine now drops remaining dirt on dismantle

  • Fixed creatures ignoring food even though hungry

  • Creatures should interact more in general

  • Fixed collision issue on Slippery Sam’s boat

  • Fixed fishes trying to strike bobber at the same time

  • Fixed issues related to saving before arriving at farm

  • Oak tree is not choppable by regular axe

  • Duck nest at lake should be easier to reach

  • Fixed missing phys material in Town Hall for footsteps SFX

  • Fixed critters being destroyed even though inventory is full when using bug catcher

  • Improved worm spawning in worm nest

  • Fixed issues with quality not retaining on save/load for some items

  • Fixed SFX concurrency issues

  • Fixed bug where crouching in water could lead to a janky loop

  • Fixed sleep for creatures

  • Fixed getting stuck on some dialogs

  • Fixed various bugs with quests

  • Fixed Kristians hay bale sample

  • Fixed issues with Butterflies not spawning

  • Fixed that objects should not fall through world when loading game

  • Fixed so that rocks save their broken state instead of disappearing when loading

Crashes:

  • Integrated intel graphics cards now have low as default, and other integrated cards has medium as default, this is to try to combat crash on startup that a used had with integrated intel graphics card

  • Potential crash fix when adding actors to crowd
