Permafrost Update (Version 0.3.0) has arrived.

Winds howl over the mountain tops. Perpetual blizzards hide the snow-covered peaks behind an impenetrable veil, where the winds howl their deadly serenade to HER, awakening ancient horrors from their eternal slumber.

This is the second major update, introducing a new core game mechanic, quests, improvements and balance changes suggested by the community.

New Frozen Biome

Venture into the frostbitten wastelands and explore snow-covered forests, treacherous mountain trails, and forgotten ruins in The Grimmir Expanse. Breathtaking views, all-new dynamic weather conditions, and ancient secrets buried deep in the ice await those who dare to step beyond the frost.

Snow Giants

These ancient titans, awakened from their eternal slumber in the ice, are not pleased by your presence.

Do not expect a warm welcome, for there is no room for empathy in their frozen hearts and frostbitten minds.


The Reflected Tree of Talents

Step into the Hall of Reflection in the Amarict and behold the newest addition to that sacred room - The Reflected Tree of Talents.


This Tree reflects your inner soul, the very essence of what makes you VOIN. It represents all current bonuses you unlock and acquire throughout your runs. 

Explore the world to seek out Soulfruits - the new items that provide unique passive abilities. Offer them to the Tree and benefit from their celestial juices. You can assign and reassign the soulfruits directly on the Reflected Tree of Talents while visiting the Hall of Reflection, and keep track of the active bonuses in your character’s menu. 

New Levelling System

This update completely changed how you gain levels and power up your character. 

The Reflected Tree of Talents has replaced the Portal of Reflection used to level up your character.

Instead of constantly jumping through the portal (which was pretty cool, I agree) and spending Ichor, you will gain levels automatically by killing enemies and completing quests, like in most other games. Simply destroy otvrats and bosses to collect their essence, which will make you more powerful run after run.


A taste of Quests and Story

Take your first step into VOIN’s quest system and unfolding story. Discover the truth behind the force responsible for the crumbling world. Aid Aurelia in silencing the wrath of the snow giants and gain access to the icy dungeon beneath The Thousand Names Atheneum, where a final trial awaits: a fearsome new story boss.

  • A Journal to keep track of your journey and quests 

  • New weapons and items, powered by frost and other elements

  • Unique items can now drop as loot after you first acquire them

  • Inventory sorting and Favourites list

  • Gameplay improvements and fixes

Additions 🆕

New Massive Area

  • Explore The Grimmir Expanse, a location 16 times larger than the first, packed with a variety of new activities. Unlock it by acquiring the scroll hidden in Fleshsmith Rogorog’s lair.

Quests

  • Meet Aurelia, complete Master's Orders, and solve Mysteries.

New Enemies

  • Face off against Snow Giants, Ice Golems, and more!

Unique Items

  • Scattered across the new world - The Grimmir Expanse, these treasures await you. Keep your vision sharp and your blade sharper.

Consumable Items

  • Gather various concoctions and empower yourself with potent temporary effects.

Changes 🔄

  • After a status effect is applied to the player, it only starts deteriorating after 1 second. This is done to alleviate situations where a status effect continually fluctuates between different numbers of stacks, triggering screen and audio effects repeatedly.

Rebalances ⚖️

  • ⚡ Obsidian Heart and its enchantment, Roiling Power, now count temporary heart charges too.

  • ⚡ 'Momentum' status effect and its base damage value were reduced from 15% to 7.5% per stack.

Bug fixes 🐛

  • Performance deterioration over time was reduced significantly.

  • Rendering performance improvements across all existing levels.

  • Secret chests no longer respawn.

  • The effect of the 'Soulfruit of the Conflux Core' no longer stacks infinitely.

  • Little exploding otvrats now die after the explosion.

  • Windraiser's projectile no longer disappears after the first collision.
