Hi, everyone. Welcome to another week's developer's diary.
Unfortunately, the daily update got interrupted for a few days as I was working on a lawsuit in Qingdao (an ex-German enclave before WW1, famous for its beer. :P )
So, this week's development was focusing on some relatively minor features, and the colonel's story will need to wait another week to appear.
In more naive games, heroes do things to save the world, solve people's problems without asking for too many rewards, as if that's their job. They are meant to do all that dirty work given by Preston Garvey, just because he calls you "General" in Fallout 4, or even when you have built up an entire town, paid all the debt, made all the decorations, you still meet someone like Tom Nook as if you owe him in Animal Crossing. Fuck those people, they have not even said thank you for once. :D
It's human nature to desire recognition, which is on the third and fourth levels of Maslow's pyramid.
OK, let's fix this problem, even just for a bit.
Even just for the sake of JD Vance.
Well, you know, I do still have a disagreement with him on Ukraine. But his performance on Bluesky this week earned him some well-deserved respect from me. :D
Joke aside, let's talk about how that reflects in the game.
Now, random citizens or soldiers in the two major towns on Jiru Island will be more appreciative of YOU, yes, you, for all the hard work you have done for them.
They shall thank you for fixing the leaks in their heating system.
They shall thank you for bringing in all the construction materials to reinforce their defenses.
They shall thank you for eliminating a dangerous cult lurking in their town.
They shall thank you for exposing a conspiracy of another secret organization.
You have done all those things and much more for them. And, they shall remember your deeds.
They will give you random small gifts.
The chance of triggering such events is based on what you have done to them and your relationship with them.
Oh, talking about relationships, I have also added their relationship values that shall now display in the menu so that you can check them directly.
The relationship bar's color is also now more unified.
It's now always red = negative and green = positive.
It's currently only an experiment on Jiru Island. If nothing explodes and everything works as planned, then you may see the system get added to other towns in the game as well, so that you know the world appreciates your contribution.
After all, why play heroes if you are unappreciated and if no good deeds go unpunished? (Unfortunately, that's real life. So, I'd still encourage you to be more pragmatic in real life, even if that means being villains in some other people's story.)
That's one thing taken care of.
Now, how about some food?
It's starting to get hot in the northern half of this planet. Although modern technology has brought us air conditioners that we can turn on every day to escape the high temperature while ignoring that Hamas-loving Thunberg shouting, "How dare you?" from a distant land, traditionally, people eat certain foods to counter the negative effects caused by hot weather.
I am not talking about ice cream.
I am talking about curry.
Hot climates can often suppress appetite, but curry’s spiciness and rich aroma stimulate the taste buds and help increase appetite. Meanwhile, spices in curry, such as turmeric and chili, have antibacterial and preservative properties. In tropical regions—where high heat and humidity cause food to spoil quickly—these characteristics help extend the shelf life of food. Plus, curry is delicious and can be combined with almost everything.
It's no longer just something limited to India, Thailand, or various Muslim nations in Southeast Asia. People all over the world now eat curry.
In the game, Curry is somehow like an "addition" to other dishes. (You can add them to almost everything in the game.)
It works like this:
1, It amplifies the MP recovery of food by 10% as food becomes more appetizing.
2, If such MP recovery rate is lower than Curry's MP recovery rate. It will be updated to Curry's MP recovery rate. Because Curry, by itself, also has recovery effects. (Scientifically speaking, it contains turmeric, which is known for its potential wound-healing properties.)
3, All food that is cooked with curry will turn brown. This is just a cosmetic effect as we can procedurally generate food icons. :D
As you know, I enjoy cooking all by myself when I am not too busy. Thus, here is a photo of a curry dish I made.

I always enjoy experimenting with new recipes, and the game will always evolve because of such an ambition to gain more knowledge. :D
Some other small changes include: a lot more shade creatures have been added to "The Guide to Monster Hunting," and Jiru Island's map has been expanded to the Asmaru Mine.
That's for this week. Next week, we shall get more content about the inquisition activity in Fjordr and finally bring the colonel to appear in the game.
