Update notes via Steam Community
Hey everyone, I'm happy to announce Slimekeep's first major update. The big changes for this update are a rework to the challenge mode and the launch of the Slimekeep OST. This update also features many bug and softlock fixes. I still have some more patches that will be coming shortly in the coming weeks fixing a few more known bugs, but really wanted to get this update out to everyone. Anyways let's get into it!

Slimekeep OST

I'm thrilled to announce that the official Slimekeep soundtrack is now available on all major streaming services! Enjoy listening to a song in game? Well now you can listen to it all you want, wherever you want! I will also be launching the OST for purchase through steam in the coming days for $2.99 if you would like to support the composers who worked hard to create it. I'm just waiting on steam to approve the OST for sale at the moment, but this shouldn't take long!

Stream the OST here: Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube Music

Challenge Mode Rework

I received a lot of feedback that certain player's wanted more of a challenge from this mode, and thought it lacked depth, so I have created a full rework of the system to make it much more fun and customizable in difficulty! If you don't know, the challenge mode in the game unlocks after beating the slime king once, and can be accessed from the left of the player's house in the start screen hub. Previously, this challenge mode would apply a random modifier each day making the game more difficult. Example modifiers could be having missiles fall from the sky every few seconds in combat, or increased weapon reload time.

As mentioned above, I've reworked this system be more dynamic and tuned to the player's difficulty desires. I've taken inspiration from games like Balatro's "stakes" system and Inscryption's "Kaycee's Mod" to create something that will hopefully be fun to play around with. Now, instead of their just being a random debuff/modifier each day in the game while in challenge mode, I've introduced "chaos levels". There are a total of 8 chaos levels in the game, starting with chaos level 1. Chaos level 1 requires you to beat the game with 1 modifier active, in which afterwards you will unlock chaos level 2 which requires 2 modifiers, and so on. Can you get to chaos level 8? Let me know, and let me know what you think of this new system!

Bug Fixes

I've also worked on many bug fixes and small changes for this update. Here they are:
  • Fixed a timeout issue with the level generator that could cause a softlock on the loading screen
  • Fixed a bug where slimes sometimes become uncapturable (I don't know for sure though this is super hard to replicate lol)
  • Fixed Chopper boss corpse sometimes blocking the chest drop
  • Fixed a bug where the player literally couldn’t leave the house
  • Fixed a bug with the Dasher upgrade that caused the player to deal 0 damage
  • Fixed a visual bug with the shopkeeper in the keep
  • Fixed an infinite dash bug when using the Dash of Doom upgrade
  • Fixed another sneaky day loading softlock
  • Fixed "slroulette" typo in Billy's Tavern NPC dialogue
  • Increased particle density for mole/digger slime
  • Very subtly buffed currency drops for dual-type slimes when captured
  • Added a dark background behind tutorial boat room text for readability
  • Fixed pet weapon shooting absurdly fast with Cappuccino/Espresso Rush upgrades
  • Fixed teleporting to puddles outside available bounds causing errors
  • Fixed a few bugs/minor issues with the secret boss fight (hehe)

Anyways, what's next for Slimekeep? Well I still have some bugs to fix (not sure how I haven't squashed all of them yet, I swear they keep popping up so sorry about this!), but after that I will definitely be looking into adding controller support. I can't promise anything right now, because I'm not sure if this will even be viable due to the game's underlying architecture, but I'll try my best and keep you guys updated. I will also likely be taking a break from active development sometime in the near future as I really need one, so we'll see how that goes. But don't worry, I'll still make sure to keep these updates flowing for now!

Happy sliming,
BenBonk
