After nearly two years I have finally uploaded the minor quality of life update I intended to do just after release.

I really burnt out when I originally released the game. Besides the fact that I didn't sleep the night before release and pushed 21 changes to my git repository that night to get it out the door I also just did the whole releasing a game pretty poorly. Obviously it was my first time doing it so I didn't really know any different but I still could have done it much better. I realised pretty early in development that my while the game was quite fun for a jam game it just didn't really have an interesting enough core to be a good game. So I thought that I'd just wrap it up quickly and release it just so I could have the experience of creating and launching a game. It was a success in that regard but a huge failure in the toll it took on my feeling towards game development.

I made the decision to quickly release the game when I thought it was 90% done (well 90% of the minimal amount for me to consider it "done"). Anyone who is familiar with game development will know that the last 10% takes 90% of the time and that was absolutely true in my case. After essentially already being emotionally done with the game I still had to commit a bunch more work towards it to release it. So when I finally did release it I just couldn't stand to touch it or anything else game development related for years. I'm only now back to really being excited about game development again but my wife just gave birth to our first son so I no longer have the free time to pursue it haha.

I wanted to push out this small update so I could feel ok with leaving the game how it is and move onto other projects. This time I'm aiming to only commit to an idea that I'm really excited about. Also I'm finally comfortable putting the game on sale which was a weird burnout side effect.

Anyway, here is the immense change log:
  • Included more clarity for when upgrades are available and what they lockout
  • Renamed "wider fov" and "widest fov" to "fisheye lens" and "fishier-eye lens"
  • Added far away fish selection option to keyboard controls
  • Added ability to see other daily photos
  • Added ability to browse montage photos
  • Fixed the montage sometimes having more than 10 photos
  • Fixed main menu fish freezing when in settings menu

Cheers!
Ben
