We just launched version 1.0.4, and it includes a lot of updates and optimizations. See the full list below!

Shoutout to the player community in the Shadowveil Discord and Shadowveil Steam Forum for providing bug reports, so we can continue to track down and eliminate issues. You're true friends of the Crab Clan!

Known Issues

  • There is a softlock that can happen when entering the Shadowveil and exiting the game to main menu. When in the Shadowveil try to complete the entire path (so you are back on the main map) before exiting the game. This can also happen when using camp in the Shadowveil. For now try to use camp in the main map only. We are looking into hotfixing this next week!
  • There is rare random crashes during battles which are hard to nail down, as above please report it on discord to help us solve them!
  • Resolutions with 16:10 or other less common aspect ratios may have issues with the UI

Optimization

The fifth patch brings the fifth optimization package. This time, further work has gone into VFX (details below) and a large rework of how UI is loaded to save RAM and VRAM.
  • All VFX in the game has been tweaked to be more performant
  • Fire effects are now more fiery!
  • Optimized UI RAM usage.


We've changed the rendering mode for many particles from "Translucent" to "Masked" due to how particle-heavy many fights can be later in the game.
Translucent particles cause heavy overdraw (re-rendering areas where they are) due to how rendering works in modern game engines - "Masked" materials, on the other hand, don't have this issue.
To retain most of the transparency, we use something called "Dithering" (basically fading into dots), which does cause some graininess but is a good trade-off performance-wise.


Updates

  • QoL: Updated descriptions and breakdowns for Berserker's Rage, Besiege, Burning Blossom Trap, Push Trap, Slash, and Earth Becomes Sky
  • Event Ancient Temple now gives Kakeguchi's Bane at the end of the run
  • Changed what text is Header and Support Header in Fortitude Rewards
  • Changed camera for card rewards depending on act
  • Changed the skylight and the map FX to reduce rendering issues
  • Changed so events stores all event options so that the “not selected” exclamation mark is correctly shown
  • Changed hovering enemies and inspecting shows only relevant stats
  • Changed so Corrupted Spirits show Evasion instead of Defense on hover
  • Changed so markers/deployables can no longer be placed on top of each other



Critical Fixes (Crashes/Softlock)

  • Fixed crash when that happened on the rare occasion of equipping two eternal items simultaneously. The one selected from embark and Kakeguchi's Bane
  • Fixed softlocking issue that disabled players control over moving units
  • Fixed potential softlock in the tutorial
  • Fixed a potential softlock in Chapter 6


Fixes

  • Fixed Enemy corpses now also become un-interactable when dead
  • Fixed deck reward packs not showing correctly when there were more than 2
  • Fixed so Missions or special nodes now generate the same level content when you retry them
  • Fixed so Revealing the entire map no longer shows encounters and paths from other acts
  • Fixed so that no combine arrow is shown if the item is on a dead unit (as it's locked)
  • Fixed event hint tooltip showing the "You Receive" header when there are no direct rewards in “A Lost Crab Warrior” event
  • Fixed issues where certain effects could damage untargetable units causing, issues.
  • Fixed issue in chapter 5 where multiple bosses appeared present
  • Fixed ability Shifting Currents cooldown
  • Fixed issue where victory screen did not show correctly after events
  • Fixed issues with Challenge “Training Dummy” and “Pessimist”
  • Fixed “The Last Disciple” mission to load the correct combat encounter
  • Fixed previous Saves should now show the correct chapter and act
  • Fixed node removal vfx played on already removed nodes
  • Fixed the issue where Shadowveil map disappears after completing a node in the Shadowveil
  • Fixed issue with Blessings tab overlapping duty selection while making camp, even though it was invisible
  • Fixed mission “Waters of fury” not counting kills and resetting when returning to watchtower
  • Fixed “Return to Watchtower” tutorial instruction should now disappear if you make camp while it's active
  • Fixed issue with unit stat reward header not having the correct text formatting
  • Fixed issue when loading the game from main menu didn’t stop music correctly
  • Hidden rewards no longer force the "You Receive" header to be shown in event option tooltips
  • Tweaked how we trigger the VFX for Boss 1 end combat scene to hopefully be more consistent
  • Minor tweaks to some boss fights
  • Tweaked some animations in Watchtower
  • Removed Otter Clan mentions in French
  • Localization updates
