It's the first update of 2025! This update prioritises making the Goofy experience smoother and more accessible for everyone, fixing the proximity chat bugs and there's also one big change to Juggernaut too!
A Step in the Right Direction for Performance!
As Goofy Gorillas has been developed in UE5 for the last 2 years, it has been utilizing Nanite to allow for higher quality assets and UE5's unique way of creating high quality shadows. These features are limited to DX12, but more importantly, limited to those with higher-end systems.
This update has reverted back to the traditional way of rendering, swapping Nanite out for the Level of Detail system and using the traditional shadows. The game should now perform much better for everyone.
On top of this, for those who have a lower-end system, you can now opt into using DX11 by adding "-dx11" (without quotation marks) to the game's launch settings on Steam. This was possible previously, but the results were not optimised at all. For those with more capable systems, using DX12 is still recommended.
The aim of this part of the update was to strip away the UE5 'next-gen' tech and make the game much more accessible whilst keeping as much graphical quality as possible. There may still be some noticeable drawbacks in the quality, but most of the game will look identical whilst having boosted performance.
Menus and UI Redesign!
It's that time for another menu redesign, but this time, the in-game UI has been changed around too to keep it all consistent. The buttons and HUD elements are now all much cleaner, making text more readable and clearer at a first glance. There has been extensive work done on how the menus function, with a big focus on ensuring all menus work with gamepads. This update makes Goofy fully playable with a gamepad, and it will be displayed on Steam.
The Juggernaut Just Got Stronger!
In its original form, Juggernaut was in need of a gameplay upgrade. So, how about giving the Juggernaut a weapon? Why not give the Juggernaut a new way to gain their points?
In this update, the Juggernaut will now be able to defend themselves against the Hunters and are able to trade their weapon with the weapon of a fallen Hunter. The Juggernaut will now gain points the same way as the Hunters - dealing as much damage as possible, but if they don't get eliminated, they will gain an extra chunk of points! Surviving is no longer the only objective for the Juggernaut, they now need to be creating chaos for the Hunters too!
This update also removes the 3+ players requirement to play select gamemodes, including Juggernaut and both versions of Infector. So if you want to play these gamemodes with just 2 players, you can now do that. (It's still more fun to include more players, though)
