Version 0.4.0

At some point, I took a step back from development and asked myself, "Is this game fun?" And from the cold, dead, emotionless black void that once housed my soul echoed a gut-wrenching, "Nah, not really."

So along with making the changes that were on the roadmap for this game, I've overhauled most of the combat mechanics and added new components to make the gameplay more dynamic and engaging.

Cue the Bones

The title makes sense now!!
There is now an added game mode to fight NPC skeletons in a colosseum style arena. This can be played solo or in a group. Select a difficulty and a duration and see what high score you can reach!

Bow Charge

This is a new concept to make a more satisfying gameplay loop. Your bow can now store five charges. These charges are generated passively by dealing damage with your default arrows and by absorbing projectiles with your new Bow Shield. These charges can be spent to create devastating Charge Arrows and Shield Blasts.

Bow Shield

By turning your bow sideways and pulling the trigger a shield will materialize in front of your bow. The shield can only be used to stop incoming projectiles, but doing so will fully mitigate the damage and generate Bow Charge that is proportional to the damage blocked. The Bow Shield cannot be deployed forever though, it can only be deployed for so long before it overheats your bow and blocking damage overheats it even faster.

Charge Arrows

The quiver and specialty charge arrows have been changed/introduced as a part of the mechanics overhaul.
The changes include:
  • All Charge arrows consume one bow charge to materialize, one additional bow charge can be used on a charge arrow to over charger it to the next level. Over charged arrows have separate effects than their level one counterparts.
  • The quiver can still only store 3 types of Charge Arrows, but there is no longer a limit to how many your quiver can produce. As long as you cultivate Bow Charge you can create Charge Arrows.
  • Charge arrows are activated on your bow and are not drawn from the quiver.
  • Charge arrows are changed via new arrow selection wheel.
  • Charge arrows can be removed from the quiver via arrow selection wheel.

Void Jumping

The final addition, and I think my favorite, Void Jumping. Use the down direction on the right stick to enter void space. While there you cannot be seen or harmed and you are frozen in place. Use the right controller to aim where you want to exit void space and then release the stick. You can only stay there for a short time so be quick about picking your next destination.
  • You have a bank of 3 jumps.
  • The UI on your hand now indicates how many jumps you have available.
  • Jumps will recharge only when you're not in the void.
