This update adds support for backfilling in progress matches that were successfully matchmade between 2 parties, where new matchmaking tickets will be directed to your game until it is full. In the next update, we hope to add a workaround for solo games to take advantage of similar logic.
Our previous logic relied on keeping guardrails on to try to get a match as full as possible, now our systems are completely reversed. Two parties or individual players searching for a match can find a match within 20-30 seconds, and we backfill additional players in as they play. Which should hopefully lead to players bunching into cycles of searching around the same time—which will help dramatically while we are in the early days of early access.
Most of our systems work great under this new design of join-in-progress, but we are looking to change Dimension Equipment in a future update—potentially transitioning it into a rare equipment drop system. We want bigger moments of "wow, I can't believe I got that", so regardless of how we get there, expect that to be a priority.
We have reduced the time to enter a solo match from 4 minutes in Queue to 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
We are not done improving this area of eliminating time spent staring at our menu, and we hope to make it even better in the next update. Thank you all for your patience and hope to see you all in game!
This update also adds a permanent fix for a root cause of failed connections mentioned in the previous patch & has other various bug fixes primarily with matchmaking UI feedback.
