Update notes via Steam Community
This was one of the largest updates of For One Year! Adding three new characters was perhaps a bit overly-ambitious, and definitely caused the release to take longer than previous releases! And it wasn't just three new characters: a lot of changes and additions went into this update - For One Year is much closer to coming out of Early Access with this release!

Thank you for your patience, and please enjoy this update ;)

Quick warning before getting to the full list of changes: if you have an existing save, it may not load properly, and if it does load, it's likely to be confused on which scenes you have and have not completed. (Sorry! This has been improved for future releases!)

Characters

  • Three new characters to meet: Anika (the Ghost), Effie (the Historian), and Gris (the Thief)
  • Oinoie, Chapter 5, now includes a couple full-screen graphics (more to come in future updates!)
  • Oinoie now has a Chapter 6
  • Corrected Oinoie's skin color in one of the Chapter 3 background images
  • A couple new "random hookup" scenarios are available; one was removed
  • Various dialog tweaks across many chapters and other scenes, including weather-aware changes (for example, the Hot Springs will be closed if it's raining or snowing)
  • Updated some of the really-old/wonky fullscreen art for the Faefolk encounter, and a couple villager encounters
  • When speaking with Kitka, her earlobe no longer vanishes in certain poses/emotes
  • Tweaked Robin's hair, so it no longer looks like she's mad in certain poses/emotes

Carrying Capacity

  • The traveler now has a carrying capacity with this update!
  • You can now throw treasures out (if you want to make room for more) - there's a confirmation dialog when doing this
  • Some treasures which were not sellable are now sellable
  • Your starting bow and fishing rod... CAN be thrown out!
  • Some scenes may play out differently if you're full of items (for example, Kitka and Cillian won't give you a cooking pot if you can't carry one)

Mini-games

  • At the start of the cooking minigame, a graphic to let you know that your goal is to make 2x2 squares of ingredients
  • Scoring larger groups of ingredients is recognized, and grants a permanent increase to your food carrying capacity
  • You will no longer find arrows in caves
  • You can now find Gold and Silver Coins in caves
  • A couple new bird types can be encountered when hunting
  • Birds now audibly rustle in their bushes when taking off

Skills

  • Two skills have been added, allowing you to increase your carrying capacity
  • "Crossing rivers is free" skill has been moved under the fishing skills
  • The "Half the number of logs" skill has been removed
  • The skill that replaces Silver Chalices with Gold Chalices in caves now ALSO replaces Silver Coins with Gold Coins
  • There are four new "secret" skills, not seen on the skill tree unless/until you learn them

Visuals, Sounds, and Effects

  • Added "title cards" at the start of a scene with a recurring character, to let you know what chapter you're on, and that "this is different from the random villagers you meet in town"
  • Character dialog windows have received a visual update, including character-specific colors to make it easier to tell when the current speaker has changed
  • A new song
  • Several new sounds
  • Several new season-aware fullscreen graphics across the game
  • The HUD (top-left and top-right status info) has received some little changes, mainly to accommodate inventory capacity
  • The CRT filter no longer looks awful at certain zoom levels
  • The "parallax backgrounds" that move with your mouse are now less-jumpy when the background image changes

Meta

  • There are several new achievements
  • Backwards compatibility with old saves is improved... for future versions of the game. If you have an existing save, it may not load properly
  • Updated many underlying libraries, including those for Intiface Central, adding support for even more bluetooth-enabled toys
  • You can now click with the right mouse button, in addition to the left, to interact with the game

And that about does it!

Again: thanks for playing, and have fun :)
