Families!
Every Mortal now belongs to a Family.
Yodeling 101
Two interested Adult Mortals that have access to a Double Bed can Yodel with one another.
Spending some quality time together...
A Fertile Male and Female pair of Yodelers have a chance of producing a Pregnancy.
Genetics
When born, a Child will be one of either of their parent's Races.
A variable amount of each Parent's appearance, preferences, and potential is inherited at the appropriate stages of development.
Stages
Baby
Babies can't really do anything other than Eat, Sleep, Cry, and Scat. They can't even rule.
Just look at it... Pathetic.
Instead of Esteem, Babies have Mood. Their mood is driven my satisfaction of their basic Needs.
Child
Children have newly formed raw Alignment and Opinions.
Their mood is driven by an increased set of Needs.
What's for dinner?
They can help out with Work but aren't very skilled so they're better off Training.
Juvenile
When a Mortal becomes a Juvenile, they become more proficient at working.
A healthy balance of Esteem, Training, and Work maximizes their Development.

They hold Esteem towards your Ruler and can choose to Desert or Defect.
Adult
When a Mortal becomes an Adult, their Sexuality comes online and they yearn for a Partner of their own.
Development
A balanced childhood yields Development Points for the Mortal.
They experience a Growth Moment at each stage of development where you can spend them on Traits.
Bleed more or Bleed less? Hrmmmmm...
These can affect anything from how much they Sleep to how often they'll bug you with specific Wants!
Family Trees
We've introduced Family Trees to offer insight into the relationships within your World.
You can't talk to me that way, I'm a 6th Generation Barf!
You can access a Mortal's Family Tree from their Mortal Sheet or the World Map.
Marriage
When Married, the Mortal with lesser Prestige prefers to join the family of the Mortal with more Prestige.
Legitimacy
A child born to parents out of wedlock is Illegitimate.
They carry the Bast surname until they become an Adult.
It's not all bad though, they get to choose a Name and start a new Family of their own once they get there!
Biological Age
We've reworked the display of Age to show the Biological Age of any given Mortal.
This normalized Age makes it easier to tell how far they are along in their life's journey.
Hovering over it will show their Chronological Age and Lifespan.
Orcs
Along those lines, we've shortened the Lifespan of Orcs to .65x that of Humans.
They progress more quickly through all of the Development stages and Leveling, bringing an interesting new option to the table.
Succession
Succession has been reworked to prioritize passing the crown to the first Legitimate Heir.
Simulation
Marriage and Reproduction are now Simulated for all the other Kingdoms and Families in your world!
Training
We've greatly expanded the Training system to support the Development of Children.
Studying
Introducing Studying!
Queue up the appropriate Book Set at a Lectern and a Mortal assigned to that Job and with sufficient Skill will author a Book Set.
You can also buy them off of wealthy Visitors.

Priorities and Scheduling
We've expanded the Jobs and Schedule Systems to give you better control over this.
Training is now a separate assignable Job.
You can control the priority and Schedule using the appropriate Tabs.
What they Train is dictated by the Training Tab.
Ranged
Oh, and we fixed Ranged Combat training.

The Choose Your Fate Scenario
Finally, we've introduced the Choose Your Fate starting Scenario and flow.
The Living World
You begin with the Living World view.
Control time on a greater scale and watch the rise and fall of Kingdoms and Families with a new window into the underlying Simulation.
Emergent Origin Stories
Origin Stories seeded from the Living World are offered up as potential starting points.
Choose and customize one of these to start with a bit of back story from your World.
Custom Origin Stories
Or choose one of the Potential Home sites to setup a Custom Origin of your own to start with.
Origin Customization...
Ascend
Once Playing, you are now given the opportunity to Ascend at key moments.
Ascending leaves your current Kingdom behind and returns you to the Living World.
From there, you can choose your next Origin within the same World.
You can even fight your old Kingdom if they're still around!
Release Date
The update will launch on 3/12 at 10a PST.
Other Changes
There are a many other changes included in this update including some that will come online during the Experimental Beta.
We'll release full patch notes when the update is released.
Saves
These changes necessitated large changes to the save game format, so this update will retire 0.28 saves.
We'll spin up a retired_0_28 set of Steam Betas so that you can continue your 0.28 saves there or go back and visit them whenever you want.
Mods
It's quite likely that the update will cause compatibility issues with some mods - especially those introducing new Races.
We'll use the Experimental Beta to iron out the kinks.
Experimental Beta
We're dusting off the Experimental Beta branch to put the update through its paces before releasing it more broadly.
Saves from the Experimental Beta will carry over when the full update releases.
You can participate by switching to the Experimental Beta on Steam. Expect issues - but know that we appreciate you helping pave the way for a smooth launch!
