Skills & Prestige Major Update v0.5.00

This is Dwarves Mining Idle's biggest major update that adds Skills and Prestige system, but also includes A LOT OF game changes and reworks. Please report any bugs you encounter!

Skill & Prestige

The Skill system will allow the player to spend individual skill points for each Dwarf. A skill will either add a slight benefit to the said Dwarf or unlock something new. 1 skill point is 10,000 experience. Spending a perk point removes experience from a Dwarf. Each time you spend a skill point it increases the cost by 1 for other skills in that tree.

Start Skill (Unlocks Skill System)

  • Added Skill: Increases experience gain by 5% and removes the slight increase to Max Experience when upgrading Experience Gain Perk(s).

Skill Tree 1

  • Added Skill: Increases Movement Speed by 1%.

  • Added Skill: Increases Experience Gain by 3%.

  • Added Skill: Reduces Dig Timer by 5%.

  • Added Skill: Increase the amount of water and lava gained after digging by 2.

  • Added Skill: Decrease Pump's Timer by 25% when digging.

Skill Tree 2

  • Added Skill: Increases Mining Speed by 1%.

  • Added Skill: Increases Experience Gain by 3%.

  • Added Skill: Increases Mining Damage by 3%.

  • Added Skill: Grant nearby Dwarves 5% mining speed.

  • Added Skill: Chance for a random item to drop after mining a tile.

Skill Tree 3

  • Added Skill: Increases Combat Damage by 1%.

  • Added Skill: Increases Experience Gain by 3%.

  • Added Skill: Penetrate Enemy Armor by 2%.

  • Added Skill: Increases Movement Speed by 15% when Looting.

  • Added Skill: Increase the chance for special enemies to spawn by 15%.

Prestige Skill (Unlocks Prestige)

  • Added Skill: Unlocks Prestige. This Dwarf will be able to prestige at level 10k and increases by 10k levels over time. Each Prestige increases experience gain by 25%.

The Surface

Started work on The Surface. This will basically be the introduction to trying to get up to The Surface.

  • This update is still a ways away but I wanted to get the initial start finished.

  • Added first ladder cost on Floor 1. Clicking the cost/tile will prompt you with information.

  • After purchasing your first ladder you will not be able to reset Floor 1. In replacement of that, I increased Max Floors from 20 to 21. Sorry if this becomes an inconvenience, but it's a lot of work to implement a reset that works with the ladders and The Surface.

  • Be sure to farm that wood! Remember, wood drops from enemies.

Fancy Visuals

  • I realized there's not any special effects or flashy stuff to keep the mind going crazy for more. I started adding a few noticeable visual effects during Dwarves behavior (mining, looting, etc).

Alert System

Completely reworked alerts. I felt like it was too in the way and didn't look all that great. It's currently changed to be a bit more interactable and more obvious, but not as invasive.

  • The way it will work now is when an alert pops up, it will start to fade away. You can hover over the alert to stop it from fading if you wanted to see what it says. You can click the alert to dismiss it.

  • Added more Alerts that will show to inform you about certain things. For example, if you don't have enough Entity, Area or Floor points to upgrade a perk, it will tell you.

Steam

  • The game will no longer close when Steam servers go offline.

Enemies & Combat

  • Reworked Enemy Health and Enemy armor. Health and Armor will now scale to the average Dwarf damage and Dwarf level on that floor.

  • Health now multiplies based on Enemy type.

  • Slimes can now drop wood instead of only slime.

Dwarf

Reworked Dwarf animation system. Each action will be completed or move on to the next action if there's nothing for the Dwarf to do at their current position. Before, Dwarves ran an animation multiple times before continuing their behavior.

  • Complete rework on how Dwarves continue their behavior in relation to their current animation. For example, when mining and they need to move forward to continue, they won't waste time doing so.

  • Completely reworked Dwarves. This is mainly due to optimizations and to make Dwarves better as a whole with less clutter for them to work with.

  • If a Dwarf has nothing to do it will run a behavior check every 5 seconds if you have any behaviors added. Dwarves will take a few seconds to change Behaviors if their behaviors have been updated.

  • Added Behavior button in Dwarves Window. This will be the main behavior window to change how your Dwarves work in order from highest priority to lowest priority.

  • Updated Experience and Max Experience. They now go off of a standard formula. The lower your Dwarf's level, the faster they'll level and the higher your Dwarf's level the slower they'll level (does not count exp gain boosts so you can essentially level faster with skills, artifacts, etc).

  • Removed Behavior box in Stats. Stats window was changed with only stats.

  • Removed Max Experience increase when purchasing Experience perks and when the Dwarf levels.

UI

  • After clicking an Information button the Information window will now set focus in front of all other opened windows.

  • Added Prestige level in Dwarf Stats.

Performance

I noticed some spikes with performance, but mostly the spikes with scripting. I have reduced script usage significantly, even if it didn't look super noticeable. This will inevitably help resource usage.

  • Optimized Camera and tile renderering resource usage.

  • Optimized Audio Manager resource usage. This wasn't a big deal, but I ended up removing some redundancies.

  • Optimized Dwarf resource usage. I found out after a week of debugging that they were causing spikes when mining. As I mentioned, this isn't noticeable for you, but internally I can tell it was a long-term issue. It has all been resolved.

Fixes

  • Fixed Main Menu high FPS causing increase in CPU.

  • Fixed Dwarf Dig Timer not hiding after floor Reset or Floor teleportation.

  • Fixed Wood not scaling properly when dropped by an enemy.

  • Fixed loot items not being picked up on game launch because it thinks a Dwarf is trying to pick up the said item, so it gets skipped.

  • Fixed Floor points not being deducted when upgrading floor related perks.

What's Next?

It's a long time coming and I was hoping to get it out by this update, but I'm wanting to finish the Guide. I don't want it to be too invasive. I'm looking at ways to show the guide (if not skipped) when unlocking something and it'll show a small guide process for it.

I also want to work on the Offline progression and create a statistics panel to show you how efficient things are and basically show numbers going up. The offline progression only gives you credits and it's a lazy way to go about it, but it's temporary until I can add materials and such. I haven't created a system like this and I want to at least try.

Addressing all of the above on What's Next is important before continuing to The Surface. I want all the previous content to be implemented fully and/or polished.
