Update notes via Steam Community

What is UP clean-freaks!? It's been an effing crazy couple of months for the Cleanup Kings, and unfortunately that meant our social media presence going absolutely kaput. Rest assured, the team did NOT drop dead in a horrific indie development accident. In fact, we've been hard at work making some fantastic new additions to our darling, deranged little problem-child, Broombot Battlegrounds -- and today we are FINALLY ready to unveil them to you in this, our third free update for the game!

Thank you to everyone who has wishlisted, purchased, played, reviewed, or even thought about our game in passing up to now! We hope to have even more to share with you all in the coming months. In the meantime, let's see what's new in UPDATE 3!!

NEW BATTLE MAP: SEWER

Sewer is a Timed Battle and Last Bot Standing map set in a grimy underground canal. Periodically throughout the match the water level will rapidly rise, temporarily submerging part of the map. If you hear an alarm, head for high ground! Also, be sure to watch out for the creatures that call this level their home... they hate visitors.

NEW BATTLE MAP: BOILER ROOM

Boiler Room is a Clean of the Hill and Oddbot map centered around a basement water heater. Turn valves throughout the level to redirect steam, but each time you do the boiler will get a little more unstable. What happens if you turn all three? We've had this level on the back burner for a while now, and we're super excited to finally show it off!

NEW GAMEMODE: ODDBOT

A glorious golden crown is hidden somewhere in the level. Find it and vacuum it up! You'll earn a point every second as long as you keep the crown in your dust bag. If you get popped, the crown will be loose and the chase is back on!
  • Note: This gamemode is playable on Clean of the Hill maps only!

NEW ACHIEVEMENT ICONS

We've completely overhauled our achievement icons with our cute cartoony 2D art style in mind. You can see a couple of them in the collage at the top of this page!

SINGLE-STICK CONTROLS ARE NOW THE DEFAULT

After extensive testing we have found that our single-stick control scheme is much more easily learned than our original twin-stick setup. Because of this, we have decided to make single-stick the default. Twin-stick controls can still be accessed via the Customization Screen for players who prefer that method.

NEW MECHANICS

  • Added a new destructible box that spills out heaps of packing peanuts when destroyed! You can even vacuum up the packing peanuts for points in Clean of the Hill mode!
  • Added the ability to spike players downward by double jumping above them.
  • The Repulsion powerup now electrifies standing pools of water on contact, creating a lasting shock hazard.
  • Broombots that are stunned by Repulsion also electrify standing pools of water on contact.
  • Added Explosive Barrels that go KABOOM when they come into contact with fire, a bullet, or an explosion from a mine.
  • Added Mousetraps that attach to the Broombot and apply a temporary slow debuff when driven over.
  • Added VENTING O_O

VISUAL IMPROVEMENTS

  • Implemented a better electrocution effect for all shock-damaging hazards.
  • Added better spark particles to the electricity player death effect.
  • Modified level difficulty colors to be green for easy, yellow for medium, red for hard.
  • Juiced up the menu countdown sequence.
  • Explosions are now scalable (and they scale depending on the object that blows up)
  • Added additional controls prompts for Single-Stick on the Pause Screen, Main Menu, and Warm-Up Round.

GAME BALANCING

  • Scaled down the hitbox for the Repulsion powerup (because of its buff)
  • Dust particles can no longer be vacuumed up in Clean of the Hill if there is a barrier in the way.
  • Significantly increased score value for vacuumed non-dust debris in Clean of the Hill.
  • Players now spawn in random positions at the start of each round in Last Bot Standing instead of spawning in the same position.
  • Slightly increased input sensitivity for single-stick controls.
  • Improved code that prevents you from respawning too close to opponents in Timed Battle.
  • Slightly buffed non-braking turn speed for dual stick controls.

BUGFIXES

  • Fixed issue where Powerup HUD element disappeared too quickly if certain multi-use abilities were fired in rapid succession.
  • Improved floor detection to combat an annoying dash recharge bug.
  • Fixed balloon rotation resetting constantly on lower framerates.

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Adjusted volume of in-game music tracks for better sound balancing.
  • Added passive aggressive messages to Warmup Round for players who just won't friggin' ready up already.
