We have just released a major Tutorial Update for DownhillMadness! In response to several reviews of the game on youtube and twitch that made it clear players were having difficulty understanding the game mechanics, we've created a new fox guide to walk you through every part of the game in a fun and interactive way.
This major update adds a completely brand new step-by-step tutorial system with multiple parts!
-
First you meet your fox guide who has thought bubbles that explain each element of the game as you go. He walks around and shows you different parts of the game and you walk up to him to progress through the tutorial.
-
The first part of the tutorial explains the wind pusher tool and the forcefield dropper tool, and gives you an endless stream of projectiles to practice pushing around.
-
After you show you can operate both tools, you move on to a new area. Here your fox guide shows you each of the different guns, one by one, with an explanation about how each one works while you fire off a few hundred rounds.
-
During this, there's a HUD tutorial that clearly breaks down what each element of the HUD represents.
-
Then you also get a movement tutorial, including how to do advanced moves like flying and air-braking and zoom locking.
-
Lastly, you get an explanation of the scoreboard and each of the 11 challenges from your fox guide, using your real scores from the practice level.
-
Then he guides you to the first level where you can begin your journey discovering new levels!
-
He always guides you to find the next level that is able to be unlocked in adventure mode.
Additional non-tutorial updates include:
-
Decreased gunfire audio volume 15%
-
Added "Out of money" HUD notification when you can't afford more ammo
-
Added "5 minutes is up, maybe try again?" HUD notification in adventure mode
-
Lightball and lightball trails brightness turned down so it's no longer blindingly bright
-
Fixed bug in arcade mode where resuming saved games would reshuffle the map sequence
-
Removed tutorial level from arcade mode shuffle list, making 32 levels in the arcade rotation
-
Added beep sound effect to the multiplier hoops when activated, which goes up in pitch a ball goes through multiple hoops
-
Redesigned firinghouse with etchings on the glass walls and grip tape on the edges where you stand. Now it's easy to tell where to go. Fancy!
These updates make DownhillMadness much easier to learn and enjoy!
