Smasher Alpha 0.3.0 is here!
And thanks to your helpful feedback, Smasher is better than ever.
There are too many changes to list (or read), but here's a summary of the important stuff:
-
All five alpha episodes have been updated and revised.
-
Episodes two (Research) and four (Slimed) have been almost fully redesigned using lots of exciting new material.
-
A fun new piece is in the game, but I don't want to spoil it for you.
-
Smasher's movement has been fine-tuned: Take off quicker, make tighter turns, and stop more easily.
-
Timelines have been added to the pause screen. They show your progress through the episode.
-
The display settings have a new rendering quality setting (low, high, and ultra), with a GPU probe to detect which to use (run automatically on first launch).
-
Automatically recorded replays are now limited to the 200 most recent episode runs; older replays are deleted. This was unlimited before, which eventually causes problems. Copy an automatic replay to a named replay to keep it forever (except it might not play correctly in future Smasher updates—the game's still evolving, which can break a replay's determinism).
-
GPU shaders are now all fully loaded on the initial launch screen, to prevent rare stutters on their first use.
-
A number of sporadic and subtle audio pops and clicks have been fixed. This is thanks to my fancy new headphones and external DAC, which together produce a highly accurate frequency response (my speakers had been filtering these tiny bugs from my ears!).
-
There's a bunch of other things, but go play the game already!
Thank you all for your feedback. You are helping to make Smasher great.
Enjoy!
