Hello friends!
We got a lot of feedback from the community this first week after release. Thank you so much for that; we can use this information to make the launch of the game the best it possibly can be! Let’s first go over the changes we made today, then we’ll discuss the changes we’re planning to make for the full release of Ash of Gods: The Way on April 27th.
Today’s update
Menu
We’ve made changes to the settings menu you get during a battle. It has always had the option to surrender a battle right at the top, but it looked a lot like the header of the menu. We got a lot of questions about the possibility of restarting a battle because of this. The surrender button should now look more clickable!
The current iteration is a quick fix, and we hope to make further changes to improve the look of this menu for the full release of the game.
Additionally, we added a button to the main menu screen that takes you straight to the store page where you can leave a review on the game. We use reviews to gauge the player sentiment on the current state of the game, so consider leaving an honest review!
Dialogue
There were a number of issues with the dialogue and they should now be fixed. These fixes include missing voiceovers, the wrong character appearing during dialogue, some localization issues and other minor bugs.
Battles
An issue occurred with markers in a certain fight with no commanders; this has now been fixed!
Thank you for your reports! If you come across any other issues, be sure to make a bug report in the Steam discussions!
What’s Planned
There are a lot of additional changes planned for the full release of Ash of Gods: The Way on April 27th. Again, thank you so much for your feedback! Below, you can read what we’re planning, and be sure to let us hear your thoughts.
Restarting a battle
The option to quickly restart a battle without heading back to the tournament overview is currently not available. This allows your friends and foes to react to your loss, which is quite important to the story. However, we hear a lot of requests to make restarting a battle quicker. We’ll look into ways to achieve this without it impacting the story and plan to have a solution ready for the full release.
Flow of battle
There was a lot of feedback on the general flow of battle. Players feel too much happens at once, making it difficult to track what moves the enemy is making. This is especially troublesome in large-scale battles, even with the card log next to the enemy Commander.
We’re looking into adding a toggleable option that makes enemy movements happen one-by-one instead of all at once. This should make it a lot easier to track what’s going on, but will also slow down the gameplay by quite a lot.
As for the players who reported the AI having two turns in a row, their units not being able to move or seeing units disappear, this should not be possible. Your units may be unable to move because the enemy used a card that stuns one or all of your units, or a unit may be blocked by a stunned unit in front of him. Characters do not disappear, but can move to another lane. We hope that the option to slow down the battle makes these actions more visible to the player.
UI visibility & clutter
Some issues were reported about the enemy’s card log obscuring units on the field. We will try to find a solution to this problem. Additionally, the amount of health numbers of units and obstacles can become quite messy. We hope to make this look less messy by the release of the game.
Battlefield zoom
Fun fact: You can zoom in and out during battle, as well as look around by dragging your mouse! There’s a lot of detail outside of the default view, so be sure to take in the sights!
The less fun fact is that the option to zoom and look around is currently not displayed anywhere in the game, and we will add some tips that will tell you about this function.
User Experience
We continue working on the general user experience of the game and will make various improvements for the full release of the game!
Again, thank you so much for your initial feedback. The new perspectives help a lot when it comes to improving the overall user experience and highlights where improvements are necessary.
Keep your ideas and opinions coming! Feel free to make a discussion thread on Steam or join the conversation on Discord!
