Long wait is over and the OpenXR update is here! This massive VR overhaul brings support for the majority of the headsets with better performance and smoother inputs. Just make sure that the right OpenXR runtime is set active before launching the game. We have pinned instructions on how to do this in the forums!
The update also includes a lot of changes, improvements, long awaited bug fixes and much, much more! To highlight a few there are visual changes to the Bulgaria map with more texture variations, surrounding mountains, faster terrain rendering with new shaders, herd idles to all animals, improved animal idle and flee behavior and improved audio.
- Support for majority of the headsets with OpenXR
- Reworked all inputs and interactions to support OpenXR
- Updated Unity engine and all related plugins and assets
- Vive cosmos and controllers should work now but needs confirmation
- Added herd idles to all animals. This means that animals will stop as a group for longer periods of time. This breaks their constant walking, makes their behavior more natural and helps players catch up to them while tracking.
- Improved animal idle behavior by adding more variation
- Animals will catch up to their herd by trotting if they fall too behind
- Improved general herd movement and behavior
- Improved animal flee behavior. Animals' flee direction has more variation and they won’t flee directly away from the player anymore. They can also change direction while fleeing
- Higher bleed rate will leave more blood tracks
- Reworked Red Deer’s piebald fur textures
- Reworked animal footprints
- Animal footprints scale based on the animals weight
- Improved deer air sniffing animation to be more clear
- Improved wild boar’s trott animation
- Decreased Hares and Pheasants walking audio volumes
- Improved highlight visibility of animal’s tracks by adding more consistent outline to it
- Improved animal pathfinding to prevent them from getting stuck
- Decreased the pheasants health slightly
- Adjusted animal hearing values (mostly lowered so players can sneak up to animals easier without them spooking from far away)
- Replaced Oculus Audio with Steam Audio to improve audio spatialization, quality and performance
- Improved and added more terrain texture variation in Bulgaria map
- Replaced terrain rendering shader with better and faster one
- Added surround mountains to the Bulgaria map
- Added branches, leaf piles and moss patches to the biomes
- Added distance shadows to the trees
- Shadows off setting will now completely disable shadows in the game
- Reworked all highlights in the game (items, tracks, animal highlights etc)
- Books will now open when they are grabbed
- You can grab the top of the ladder to help climbing
- Adjusted binoculars sharpness to match the scopes
- Removed footstep sounds when the player is falling
- Improved the .223 rifles bolt’s grab area
- Reworked the 3D deer target
- Changed audio to start at 0% volume when opening the game
- Lowered the rangefinders price
- Bullet path thickness on x-ray view and targets are now based on the bullets diameter
- Several adjustments to the fog during daytime, early mornings and general improvements
- Reworked all ammo boxes with new design and look
- Added a visible bullet when chambering a round with the rifles
- Ammoboxes will close when the weapon your holding is full and opens if they are not
- Adjusted terrain to reflect light properly when looking towards the sun instead of being completely black
- Removed an outline from several vegetation when looking against fog or other light background
- Improved optics stabilization
- Added more moss to the mountain biome
- Added a sound effect when walking over branches
- Improved audio spatialization when walking through vegetation
- Added sounds to few plants when walking through them
- Improved animal tracking by decreasing the distance when animals leave tracks and with herd idle players should have an easier time catching up to them.
- Improved locking check of bolts and sliders in rifles to prevent empty shots if bolt wasn’t fully down
- Fixed a major issue where animals could hear the player beyond their hearing range after getting spooked
- Fixed a major issue where animals would by default walk towards the north and over time move almost all animals to the northern parts of the map
- Fixed an issue where shotgun barrel switch rotated around wrong pivot point
- Fixed an issue where you can drop ammo from your hand with Valve Index controllers
- Fixed an issue where wrong info board would open when purchasing the 3-9x50 scope
- Fixed an issue where the arrow wasn’t pointing to the right save slot button
- Fixed an issue where pheasants gave full integrity with rifles when shot on the ground
- Fixed an issue where fireplace sound was heard far away
- Fixed a major issue where animals left too little blood tracks
- Fixed an issue where an animal could stop leaving blood tracks even if it was still bleeding
- Fixed an issue where several rocks and objects didn’t have colliders
- Fixed an issue where item highlight would stay on after touching the item
- Fixed an issue where the map could get stuck on the left hand when dropping it
- Fixed an issue where trophy mounts were placed slightly inside the fireplace (You have to move them to place them correctly if they currently are misplaced)
- Fixed an issue where game audio could be really low after loading to the Bulgaria map
- Fixed an issue where animals would flee very short distance if player was far enough
- Fixed several issues with animals idle animations and behavior
- Fixed an issue where the stick in pheasants mount poses would disappear
- Fixed an issue where game audio was on while loading
- Fixed and issue where player would spawn inside the outpost in the tutorial and fade would turn off before player was moved to the right position outside
- Fixed an issue where animals would not continue looking around if it was stopped once
- Fixed an issue where players could move during load times
- Fixed an issue where you couldn’t place a scope back on the weapon
- Fixed an issue where you could grab a weapon from the backpack on your back after first loading in to the game
- Fixed an issue where pheasants had super hearing
