64-bit, Improved Performance and legacy OS support
When Uncrewed first started development, 32-bit hardware was still ubiquitous and 32-bit OS versions had a significant market share. Today, as far as gaming is concerned, virtually all platforms out there are 64-bit. Up to this point Uncrewed was an exclusively 32-bit application, which caused degraded performance and even stability issues in some cases.
As of this update Uncrewed has been ported to 64-bit and will no longer support 32-bit versions of Windows. The move to a 64-bit build brings improved performance (up to 20% in some cases) and eliminates all possible stability issues when playing on maximum settings with large number of units, as well as greatly improves expandability and modding potential.
Because of this change Uncrewed will no longer run on any Windows XP version, and as of this update only the 64-bit versions of Windows 7, 8/8.1, 10 and 11 are officially supported. Running the game via Proton will also require a 64-bit Linux.
Rapid Fire Mode
This update also introduces the concept of rules to custom games. You can now play all available maps (including your own and those from the workshop) with non-standard sets of rules provided the maps don't use custom scripts.
- Rapid Fire rules increase all weapon ammo capacity by 10x. It is now the default rule-set for custom games. This change reduces unit micro-management which in turn makes the games feel much faster and action oriented. Try it out for yourself!
- Classic rules are how the game used to play before this update. Some players may still find this mode to be a better experience, but it is overall harder and slower.
