ValveTime Liveblogs From EGX 2015

Nick and Glenn from ValveTime here! We're taking over SteamDB for the weekend to bring you the latest Valve news straight from EGX 2015! This is our first time liveblogging, so we probably won't be very good at it! But stick with us - perfection takes practice!

Nick and Glenn from ValveTime here! We're taking over SteamDB for the weekend to bring you the latest Valve news straight from EGX 2015! This is our first time liveblogging, so we probably won't be very good at it! But stick with us - perfection takes practice!

We'll be updating this page if and when we feel there's something to say, so check back regularly! In the meantime, don't forget to check out our great content over on our own website and YouTube channel. This is hopefully the first of many future collaborations between ValveTime and SteamDB, and we're excited for what lurks around the corner!

Hello world!

08:08 UTC ·

Shut up , Glenn!

I'm just about to head out to the station to travel to EGX. We missed out on booking a slot at the HTC Vive booth, but let's see what happens!

09:06 UTC ·

Traveling, Part 1:

09:09 UTC ·

Boy, xPaw didn't make this mobile blogging thing easy! Kappa

10:18 UTC ·

I would've uploaded a Traveling Parts 2 and 3, but my laziness got the better of me.

10:21 UTC ·

Since neither Glenn or I are even at EGX quite yet, go check out our latest spotlight, which covers Valve's recent presence at PAX Prime!

11:55 UTC ·

Glenn here! We've all arrived and our demo with valve and HTC has been booked for tomorrow. Live blogging starts on the vive demo from 15:00

12:34 UTC ·

We've checked out the Vive booth, probably the best looking one here!

12:41 UTC ·

Get hyped!

12:49 UTC ·

Just checked out the Dota 2 tournament here, we understand Tobi is here too but casting CSGO. We'll do our best to track him down.

14:05 UTC ·

Glenn "interviews" TF2 mapper Tim YM Johnson!

14:42 UTC ·

Some great valve merchandise here, ever a soft spot for the half-life themed items

14:45 UTC ·

A wild Chet Faliszek appears! Had a quick hello with him before he took off to the Vive booth where we'll catch up with him tomorrow.

14:59 UTC ·

It's official, Glenn is terrible at this live blogging thing...The struggle is real.

16:25 UTC ·

YM plays with his joystick at the Leftfield collection.

20:32 UTC ·

EGX is over for the day, so it's time to wind down with a meal and prepare our bodies for the Vive demo tomorrow. To close out the day, here's a photo of Glenn and his new friend...

07:54 UTC ·

Time for breakfast as we prepare for Day 2!

08:37 UTC ·

Time for the best and most fun part of the day - waiting in line for 30 minutes!

10:03 UTC ·

It's time for some CS:GO!

11:32 UTC ·

Glenn catches up with long time MIA VT forum member Evo!

13:48 UTC ·

About to go in for our Vive demo!

15:49 UTC ·

Vive demo was incredible! Absolutely mesmerising immersion. We played several demos including the Dota 2 secret shop and Aperture Science. The experience of being in the Dota demo is amazing, being able to interact with the shopkeeper, pick up a light, move around and interact with dota creatures and items, while teleporting yourself onto a micro scale in that world. Unforgettable.

15:51 UTC ·

Had a quick hello with Shen at HTC, thanked him for his time. We've now been kicked out but made our way over to GNifinity CSGO tournament. And look, Tobi is here too!

18:25 UTC ·

Necrophos is trying his hands at being an Engineer after another busy day at EGX 2015! Time to relax and get ready for tomorrow.

18:45 UTC ·

Nick is quite right, it's been a busy day with our demo of the Vive & CS:GO, but not one I'm going to forget in a while. We'll be doing a lot of comments, pictures and videos from our Vive experience to tell you why this is the future and why you need one in your life.

But for now, I'm tired and my time with EGX this year is over. I'll hand you back over to the capable hands of Nick for Sunday, the final day of EGX.

I need to sleep, thankfully Naga Siren was on hand to assist. Adieu for now!

08:40 UTC ·

It's time for the final day of EGX 2015. Glenn maybe gone, but there's still plenty to see!

08:51 UTC ·

While I wait to head in, here's a neat shot of Glenn playing with Tiltbrush at the Vive booth yesterday.

11:44 UTC ·

Here's something we didn't cover yesterday - Lego Dimensions has some fun Portal-themed content, letting you play as Chell, run around Aperture, and fight GLaDOS. What little we played of the Aperture level didn't really have too much content specific to Portal outside of the visual design, but it was definitely enjoyable once you get used to Lego Dimensions' rather weird and unconventional gameplay mechanics.

11:54 UTC ·

Rainbow Six: Siege takes clear inspiration from the tactical combat and competitive structure of Counter-Strike. Let's see how it holds up!

14:56 UTC ·

Rainbow Six: Siege isn't quite as tight to control or play as CS, but it does offer plenty of tactical planning, team work, and replayability. 5v5 keeps things controlled, and tension is maintained as teams slowly get picked apart. Traps and controllable items also help separate RS:S from CS and prevent it being unfairly labelled or viewed as a copycat.

18:04 UTC ·

That wraps up the final day of EGX 2015! We had a bunch of extra things we wanted to discuss today, but poor timings and WiFi were against us. We'll be recapping our trip to EGX and our Vive experiences in a video coming in the next week or two, so stay tuned!

Over and out.
